Coach Interviews: What Makes This Generation Special
““They’re focused. They’re fearless. And they’re more than just players.” We sat down with three FC GALAXY coaches to talk about what sets the current generation apart—and why the future looks bright.”
At FC GALAXY NBO, we’ve worked with hundreds of young footballers across age groups, neighborhoods, and backgrounds. But something about this 2025 crop is different. They're not just talented—they’re driven, resilient, and deeply committed to both the game and their growth.
We sat down with three of our lead coaches—Coach Mwangi (Senior Team), Coach Achieng (U16 & Girls Team), and Coach Omondi (U12)—to find out what makes this generation of players so exciting.
Coach Mwangi: “They’re Dreaming Bigger, Earlier”
"When I was their age, football was just fun. But these kids? They come to training talking about scholarships, trials in Europe, and highlight reels. Their goals are global."
Coach Mwangi, who’s led FC GALAXY’s senior team for three years, says the difference isn’t just skill—it’s mindset.
“They want more, and they work for it. They’re watching tutorials online. They’re asking for extra drills. It’s a new kind of hunger.”
Coach Achieng: “They’re Not Afraid to Lead”
"What impresses me most is how vocal they are—not just in matches, but in their teams and communities."
As the first female coach in the club’s leadership staff, Coach Achieng works closely with both boys and girls squads. She’s seen players who were once shy grow into captains, mentors, and event volunteers.
“We have a U14 midfielder who tutors two younger players after practice. That kind of character is what builds a winning culture.”
Coach Omondi: “They Bounce Back Fast”
"This generation understands that failure is part of growth. I’ve seen players lose 4–0 on Saturday, then show up smiling and ready to learn on Monday."
For Coach Omondi, resilience is the real game-changer. He credits this to better mental health awareness, strong family support, and mentorship within the club.
“They ask for feedback, not praise. That’s rare—and powerful.”
What It Means for FC GALAXY’s Future
These coaches agree: the foundation being built today will shape not just careers, but entire communities. With the right investment in facilities, training, and exposure, this generation could produce Kenya’s next breakout stars.
And it’s not just about trophies.
“We want to raise role models—on and off the pitch,” says Coach Achieng. “If we do this right, we’ll change lives far beyond 90 minutes of football.”
